Let me start this post by saying that this is not my kitchen. Right now, since I am living with my parents I am sharing their kitchen and I only have a virtual kitchen. Hopefully, in a few months The Peach Kitchen won’t be just a virtual kitchen anymore. I kind of have an idea of what I want my kitchen to look like.
Of course, when we talk about our dream kitchen, we don’t usually think small. We think about how big and lavish it’s gonna be with all the appliances and cabinets and a space for ten people to do cartwheels. In real life,many of us live in a small house with a small space allotted for the kitchen. Unless we could knock our walls down and extend our kitchen to the neighbors, then we just might have to just create a bigger impression of our kitchens with a few strategic decorating tricks.
Use Glass Cabinet Doors
Instead of using solid wood as cabinet doors, use glass. This will create a more expansive look as the eyes can travel all the way back inside the cabinets. Plus it will lighted the look of the kitchen.
Paint the Walls and Cabinets with One Color
Painting the cabinetry and the wall with a single hue erases visual boundaries that might stop the eye.You can choose light colors to reflect lights and make the space look bigger but you can also choose darker colors as they create an impression that the walls are farther back than they really are.
Think Clean and Minimalist
Choose cabinet designs that are smooth and clean. Cabinets with very detailed design will make the kitchen look busy and full
Incorporate Open Shelves
Open Shelves creates the illusion of space. Just don’t clutter it with your kitchen knick knacks.
Direct The Eye Upward
There are visual elements that help to guide the gaze toward the ceiling. In the photo above, that small open space in the ceiling lend the impression of greater height.
