Twinkle’s Young Chef Society Adventures: Learning to Cook, One Recipe at a Time

Every Friday, Twinkle comes home from school with the biggest smile on her face — cheeks rosy, hands waving, and eyes sparkling with excitement. “Mommy! Guess what we made today?” she always says before she even drops her bag.

This year, she joined the Young Chef Society, her school’s very own food club where kids get to explore the fun world of cooking. It’s basically every little foodie’s dream! Each week, they’re given easy recipes to make — sometimes with fruits, sometimes with bread, and sometimes with ingredients that surprise even me.

Twinkle with her Sandwich on a Stick

Two Weeks Ago: Apple and Banana Smoothie Day

Their moderator, Mrs. Duran, asked them to bring an apple, a banana, and milk. Simple ingredients, right? But for the kids, it was magic. They learned how to peel, slice, and blend — all while talking and laughing with their classmates.

Twinkle came home proudly holding her smoothie in a cup (though half was already gone by the time she reached me 😅). She said, “Mommy, I made this! It’s healthy AND yummy!” I couldn’t help but smile — not just because of the smoothie, but because I could see how happy and confident she was.

It’s amazing how something as simple as blending fruits can teach kids teamwork, patience, and appreciation for food.

This Week: Sandwich on a Stick

This week’s recipe was even more fun — Sandwich on a Stick! Their teacher told them to bring their own ingredients: Twinkle brought gloves, sticks, paper plate, marshmallows, and cooked ham. Other kids brought bread, grapes, cheese, and more.

I love that it’s a group effort — everyone brings something, and by the end, they all share what they made.

Twinkle came home so proud of her “creation.” Each stick had alternating cubes of bread, ham, grapes, and marshmallows. “It’s like a party on a stick, Mommy!” she said before taking a bite.

Honestly, I never would’ve thought to put marshmallows and ham together — but it worked! (At least, according to her and her classmates.) 😄

Why I Love This Club for Twinkle

I’ve always believed that kids should learn about food early, not just how to eat it, but how it’s made. The Young Chef Society makes learning fun, without pressure. They’re not just cooking; they’re exploring textures, smells, and flavors.

It also teaches them teamwork — bringing ingredients, preparing together, and cleaning up after. Plus, it helps them gain independence and confidence in the kitchen (and maybe help me with baon someday).

I can already see Twinkle becoming more curious about what’s cooking at home. “Mommy, can I help stir?” or “Can I make my own sandwich?” are things she says more often now — and I love every bit of it.

What’s Next?

I can’t wait to see what other fun dishes she’ll be learning next. Maybe one day, we’ll have our own little “Young Chef Society” at home — complete with aprons, measuring cups, and giggles all around.

Because at the end of the day, cooking isn’t just about food — it’s about creating memories, one small recipe at a time.
