Our First Year of Marriage vs. Now: What Changed and What Stayed the Same

Spark Alive

Ah, the first year of marriage—the honeymoon phase, when every day felt like a rom-com. We were walking on clouds, sending each other love notes, and discovering new ways to say “I love you.” Even deciding what to eat for dinner felt fun: “Kahit saan, basta kasama kita.” 🥰

Fast forward a few years, and life… well, it got real. We now juggle bills, laundry, grocery shopping, work, school runs, and trying to remember what day of the week it is. But surprisingly, marriage is still full of love — just in different forms.

Here’s a humorous comparison:

Then: “Good morning, love! Breakfast in bed for you!” 🥞
Now: “Good morning. Coffee’s ready… if you make it yourself.” ☕

Then: Weekend movie marathons cuddled on the couch. 🍿
Now: Weekend marathons of “Sino ang maghuhugas ng pinggan?” 😂

Then: Holding hands everywhere.
Now: Holding each other’s phones saying, “O, bayad na ba yung kuryente?”

Then: Late-night deep talks about dreams and life.
Now: Late-night talks about which grocery items are on sale tomorrow. 😅

And yet, despite the chaos, some things never change:

  • We still laugh every day, even over the smallest things (or the dumbest jokes).
  • We still check in with each other, making sure the other is okay—even when busy or tired.
  • We still choose each other, day after day, in the messiness of life.

Marriage evolves. It’s not always picture-perfect, but the love that started it all? That stays. And honestly, I wouldn’t trade those tiny, imperfect, hilarious moments for anything.
