How to Make Your Home Feel Like a Staycation

There are weeks when I just crave a little break — a quiet day, no deadlines, no chores… just peace. But let’s be real, momsh — between bills and school expenses, a fancy hotel stay isn’t always an option.

how to make your home feel like a staycation

So one weekend, I thought, why not bring the staycation home? And you know what? It worked! Here’s how I turned our simple house into a cozy retreat — minus the check-in fee.

1. Set the Mood with Scents

I lit a vanilla candle, played soft music, and suddenly the living room felt like a spa! You don’t need expensive candles either — I buy mine from Shopee for less than ₱200. Try scents like lavender or eucalyptus for that relaxing hotel feel.

2. Fresh Sheets, Fresh Mind

Changing beddings instantly makes your room feel new. I go for white or pastel sheets (parang hotel vibes). Add a cozy throw blanket and fluffy pillows — perfect for lazy weekends.

💡 Tip: Spray a bit of linen mist before bed for that “freshly cleaned” scent.

3. Create a Mini Café Corner

One of my favorite things in a staycation? Coffee time. I set up a small tray with my favorite mug, coffee beans, and creamer. Sometimes I even make Dalgona coffee or a café latte while pretending I’m in Tagaytay. 😂

If you have an espresso machine or French press, use it! It’s a small luxury that makes mornings feel special.

4. Bring Nature Indoors

Plants instantly brighten any space. I added a few indoor plants like snake plants and succulents. They don’t just look pretty — they also make the air feel fresher.

Even faux plants can work if you’re not into watering.

5. Unplug (Just for a While)

For one weekend, I turned off notifications and avoided work emails. We watched movies, played board games, and just enjoyed each other’s company. That digital detox made our home feel like a retreat.

You don’t need to go far (or spend much) to rest. Sometimes, all it takes is a few small touches — a candle, clean sheets, and time with loved ones — to make home feel like a getaway.

And that’s the beauty of it, momsh — peace doesn’t always mean going somewhere else. Sometimes, it’s right where you are. 🌼
