Everybody knows that breastfeeding is best for our babies. Aside from the fact that breast milk contains all the vitamins and minerals that our babies needs in their first 1,000 days , it also contains the disease-fighting anti bodies that help protect our babies from illness and germs or bacteria.
When Ykaie was born, she had trouble latching on. I remember feeling like a failure because I couldn’t make her latch properly. Also, my nipples that wasn’t inverted when I wasn’t pregnant suddenly became inverted after giving birth. I didn’t know it could happen! My simple thoughts about breastfeeding were immediately replaced by frustration and worries. And with Twinkle, it was more of the same.
Back then, I wish I had a support system other than my family and friends. This is the reason that I was so happy to learn that other companies are in full support and helping their mom employees who are just starting out on their journey of nourishing their babies.
Breastfeeding in The Workplace
A couple of weeks ago, I was one of the participants who joined the discussion about breastfeeding and motherhood with Nestlé employees. The discussion was facilitated by Ms. Venus Peña their own Lactation Consultant in the company.
She talked about the different breastfeeding positions, positioning for breastfeeding, how the breasts produce milfk for the baby, and the reasons why the baby is reluctant to breastfeed. She even demonstrated a massage to help increase the flow of milk. After which, we got to ask questions about breastfeeding. I am happy to know that nursing moms are allowed 60 minutes a day to express their milk during office hours.
And here we are, some of the participants of the Breastfeeding At the Workplace talk.
Company Lactation Room and Day Care
But you know what I was most happy to find out? The company has a really nice and newly renovated Lactation room for mommies and a Day Care.
It is a big room with four large enough cubicles with curtains where mommies can express their milk or breastfeed in private. It also has refrigerator where they can store their milk.
This is their Day Care. If the mommies doesn’t have a yaya or someone to look after their kids, they can bring their kids to work and leave them in the Day Care — where they can play and do some educational activities.
Twinkle and I even tried some of their toys!!
This wonderful company who loves their mommas in the workplace and give full support to their breastfeeding journeys with their precious one is Nestle.
My babies maybe all grown up. Ykaie is 12 and twinkle is a toddler but just like Nestle, I believe that a happy and healthy baby starts with a happy and healthy momma.
I hope many or all company follow this practice.
