party games

Fiesta means party or feast. You won’t see a town, municipality or church without their own fiesta.  Last week was the feast of our church’s patron saint –Saint Roch/San Roque. Usually, barangays decorate the street with banderitas {colorful trimmings} and there are “palaro” or fiesta games. I grew up joining the different fiesta games every year but nowadays it’s very rare that I see those fiesta games in our neighborhood. I wanted ykaie and my nieces to experience them while they grow up too so I held a few for them.

First game was the Pabitin.We used an old “balag” from our family’s previous parties. Participants were: Shy, Thea, Chellie, Cyra and Ykaie.

Pabitin is a very popular party and fiesta game  which uses bamboo sticks tied together on a criss-cross pattern called “balag”. Small toys, goodies and snacks are tied to it. It is then hung and the kids are asked to gather below it, it’ll be raised and lowered quickly while the kids reach for the goodies.

The kids enjoyed the game because each of them got lots of plastic bracelets, stickers, snacks and chocolates. Sis contributed the toys and the stickers and tita becka contributed the fun size chocolates.

Our second game is Pukpok Palayok or Smash the Claypot. Cyra and Ykaie went first and Ykaie was cheating..LOL!

Pukpok Palayok or Smash the Claypot uses a  decorated claypot filled with coins and candies and suspended in the air. First in the kids’ line goes first. One by one, the kids are blindfolded and given a wooden stick to smash the claypot. The one who smashes the claypot wins a prize while the others can join in to grab the goodies that falls on the ground .

Chellie, Thea and Shy were next..weeeee..more candies for the kids. We smashed two candy-filled claypots last Sunday.

Our last game for the day is “find the candies from the flour“.Each kid is given a plateful of flour with candies hidden in it. They must blow the flour away in order for them to see the candies. They can only pick -up the candies from the plate using their mouth. There were seven candies on each plate and first one to get all seven wins.

Cyra was the first to quit the game and…oooopss, ykaie is cheating again… LOL!

Ykaie and Chellie are taking this game seriously…

Everyone had fun and there was a flour fight later on.Chellie is the big WINNER of this game.

This is one of the reasons why I love Sundays when the kids are here.
