Miel and Ykaie
Every November 1, during All Saint’s Day, it has become a tradition for the Filipinos to celebrate and commemorate their loved ones. The practice is that before that day, relatives would go to their dearly departed’s tomb, clean it and repaint it. Then on the day itself, they would bring flowers, candles and of course, food for the family.
This day also serves as a get-together and a family reunion for some.
I didn’t grow up with this tradition as all of my relatives on my mother’s side are cremated and put inside a pretty box or a vase. What we do is that we take them all out during November 1st and arrange them in the altar. Then we surround them with flowers and candles and pray for them.
It’s a good thing that Ykaie experiences this tradition through my ILs {peanutbutter♥‘s side}. We go there every year to remember her Lolo and Lola who has departed.
..And she gets to play with cousins who she only gets to see occasionally.

I so miss this tradition! I have been away from home for 3 years now and All souls’/saints’ day are not celebrated here in Thailand. Thanks for sharing, Mommy Peach! I was here a few days ago but your blog was not loading… I am glad it’s up now. Hope you will join again this week’s WW!
