It has been quite a while since I last shared a proper update about our pets. I feel like I used to blog about them all the time, especially when Onyx, Coffee, Chocnut, Cookie, Fishball, and the rest of the gang were younger. But life has gotten busier, the kids have grown, and somehow my pet updates became fewer and farther between.
The last time I wrote something really personal about our pets was when we lost Coffee last September 19. That one took me quite a while to write because, honestly, I wasn’t ready. Losing a pet is different from losing a pet story. They become part of your everyday routine, so when they’re suddenly gone, you keep expecting to see them in their usual spot.

So today, I’m finally writing a lighter pet update.
Onyx is bald. 😂
Well… not completely bald. But he definitely looks very, very different.
Yesterday, we brought him to the groomer and had him shaved. ₱800 ang haircut ni Sir Onyx! At first I was laughing because I couldn’t get over how different he looked. Goodbye fluffy fur! Hello… skinny little Onyx! 😂
But there was actually a reason we had to do it.
Why We Had Onyx Shaved
Onyx has been having a problem with fleas, and because they were bothering him so much, he started scratching a lot. Unfortunately, all that scratching eventually caused wounds on his skin.
We’ve been trying to keep an eye on him, but you know how cats are. They don’t exactly cooperate when you want to inspect them.
And Onyx has always been a little character.
If you’ve been following this blog for a long time, you might remember that Onyx and Coffee came into our family together. I wrote about them when they were just five months old, and even back then, Onyx already had his own personality. He was described as “snob sa umaga, malambing sa gabi,” which, honestly, still sounds very much like him. 😂

He also used to love sleeping on the dining table and was apparently very interested in our turtle Aspara. So yes, he has always been a little weird, a little stubborn, and very much Onyx.
A few years later, we were already dealing with another skin problem when he developed mange and had wounds around his ears. That experience taught us not to ignore persistent scratching or unusual wounds, so this time, we decided to have him checked again rather than just hoping it would go away.

The vet prescribed a topical medicine, mupirocin, for the wounds, and we’re hoping it helps his skin heal quickly.
Now we’re just waiting for the wounds to heal, the scratching to calm down, and, of course, for his beautiful fluffy fur to grow back.
Bilisan mo, Onyx. Hindi bagay sa’yo ang kalbo! 😂

And Then… The Other Pets Didn’t Recognize Him
This part honestly made me laugh and feel bad at the same time.
After we brought Onyx home from the groomer, our other cats and dogs seemed to look at him like…
“Sino ka?”
Apparently, the fluffy black-and-white cat they were used to seeing had suddenly disappeared and was replaced by this strange-looking, freshly shaved creature.
And instead of welcoming him home, some of them even started inaaway siya! Huhuhu.
Imagine paying ₱800 for your cat’s haircut and then he comes home only to be bullied by his own siblings. 😭😂
I guess the smell from the groomer, combined with his completely different appearance, made him seem unfamiliar to the others. Poor Onyx was probably wondering why everybody suddenly had an attitude.
Meanwhile, ako naman, “Guys! Si Onyx ‘yan! Kapatid niyo ‘yan!”
Apparently, the family meeting did not go well.
Our House Has Always Been a Little Chaotic Because of Our Pets
Looking at Onyx now made me remember just how much our pets have been part of our family story.
There was a time when I joked that I was slowly turning into a dog and cat lady because we had so many pets running around the house. I even wrote about how chaotic — but happy — it was having so many fur babies. And yes, I also admitted that they’re not exactly cheap because there’s food, vet visits, medicine, grooming, and all the other expenses that come with taking care of them.

But that’s the thing about pets. They become part of the household.
They’re there when you’re working. They’re there when you’re eating. They take over chairs, beds, sofas, tables, and basically any place they decide belongs to them.
And somehow, even when they’re making a mess, you miss them when they’re not around.
We’ve had so many pets over the years that sometimes I look at old photos and realize just how much our little family has changed. Some are still with us, some have passed, and some have simply become part of the stories we tell.
And now we have Bald Onyx. 😂
Hopefully, Fluffy Onyx Will Be Back Soon
For now, we’re just taking care of him and following what the vet prescribed for his skin. I hope his wounds heal quickly and that his fur grows back soon.
I’m also hoping the rest of the gang stops bullying him and realizes that yes, that’s still Onyx.
He’s just… temporarily naked. Hahaha!
I’ll definitely post another update once his fur starts growing back. Hopefully, the next time you see him here, he’ll be back to his handsome, fluffy self again.
For now, please send some love to our poor little bald boy. ❤️ And Onyx, please stop scratching!
Your Mommy already spent ₱800 on your haircut. At least cooperate! 😂
